Julius Dieckmann served as a First Lieutenant with the Second Battery and Company II, 29th Infantry before joining the Thirteenth Independent Battery.
Julius Dieckmann enrolled in the Thirteenth at Albany on May 15, 1862 at the age of 42 to serve for three years. He was mustered in as a Captain that same day. On May 30, 1862, following the resignation of Capt Sturmfels, he was commissioned a Captain and given command of the Thirteenth retroactive to May 15. Dieckmann resigned on May 26, 1863.
Dieckmann subsequently served in the 15th Artillery.
